Wood Bending Guide
Steam bending rule: 1 hour per inch of thickness
Min radius (steam) = R/T ratio x thickness
Bending Methods Compared
- Steam bending: Traditional, tight bends possible with good species. Requires steam box and forms.
- Laminate bending: Glue thin strips over a form. Most predictable, minimal springback.
- Kerf bending: Cut kerfs on inside of bend. Quick but weakens the wood.
