Air drying rule of thumb: ~1 year per inch of thickness
Kiln drying: 6-8 weeks for 4/4, varies by species
Drying Tips
- Sticker spacing: Place stickers every 12-16 inches for 4/4 lumber
- End sealer: Seal end grain with wax or sealer to prevent checking
- Air circulation: Ensure good airflow through the stack
- Weight the stack: Place heavy weight on top to prevent warping
