Passivhaus Standard Requirements
The Passive House standard requires: space heating demand of 4.75 kBTU/sq ft/yr (15 kWh/m²/yr) or less, space cooling demand of 4.75 kBTU/sq ft/yr or less, primary energy of 38 kBTU/sq ft/yr (120 kWh/m²/yr) or less, and airtightness of 0.6 ACH50 or less. These are achieved through superinsulation (R-40+ walls, R-60+ roofs), high-performance windows (U-0.14 or less), heat recovery ventilation, and meticulous air sealing.
