How to Calculate Mortar
Mortar volume: (Bed joints + Head joints) per unit x Number of units
Bags needed: Total cubic feet / 0.50 cu ft per 80 lb bag
Mortar Types
- Type M: Highest strength (2500 psi) - foundations, retaining walls
- Type S: High strength (1800 psi) - below-grade, standard structural
- Type N: Medium strength (750 psi) - above-grade, general purpose
- Type O: Low strength (350 psi) - interior, non-load-bearing
