Faunal Analysis Formulas
Domestication Ratio = Domestic NISP / Total NISP
Simpson Index = 1 - Sum(ni/N)^2 for each species
Dominance = Most Abundant Species / Total NISP
Faunal assemblage composition changes over time as domestication increases and wild species decline. High domestication ratios suggest later periods with established farming. The Simpson Diversity Index measures evenness of species representation. Extinct species serve as terminus ante quem markers.
