Carbon offsets fund projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as reforestation, renewable energy, and methane capture. The voluntary market typically prices offsets at $10-50 per metric ton of CO2. One mature tree absorbs about 22 kg (0.022 tons) of CO2 per year.
