Plasma Cutting Guidelines
Plasma cutting uses a focused arc through a constricted nozzle to melt and blow away metal. Proper settings ensure clean cuts with minimal dross.
General Rules
- Amperage: Roughly 1A per 1mm of mild steel thickness at quality cut speed
- Speed: Too fast leaves dross on bottom; too slow creates top dross and wide kerf
- Standoff: Maintain 1.5-3mm (1/16"-1/8") torch-to-work distance
- Air pressure: Follow manufacturer specs, typically 60-80 PSI
